Overview

SPCT is a joint venture between DP World (80%) and Tan Thuan Industrial Promotion Company (20%). IPC is a respected Vietnamese State owned enterprise and is also responsible for developing a 2,000 hectare industrial zone at Hiep Phuoc and the 1,600 hectare Hiep Phuoc Harbour City Project.

SPCT will be located along the western shore of the Soai Rap River within the Hiep Phuoc Industrial Park, located approximately 16km by road from Center of Ho Chi Minh City and in close proximity to its industrial hinterland.

SPCT will involve the development of 950 meters of quay line, 40 hectares of adjoining land and 10 ship to shore cranes and associated equipment at a total estimated cost of $360 million.

SPCT will be developed as a world class container terminal facility, incorporating state of the art technology, the latest handling equipment and comprehensive training for the Vietnamese workforce. Total capacity is projected to reach in excess of 1.5 million TEU once fully constructed. Development will be phased in line with demand growth, with the first two of four berths scheduled to begin operation in 2009. It is anticipated that the SPCT development will prove to be a successful formula for additional container terminal developments between DP World and IPC in Hiep Phuoc Industrial Zone and help reinforce the Hiep Phuoc area as the new urban and logistics hub for HCMC in line with the city government's SEA strategy.

VIETNAM PORTS SECTOR

The economy of Vietnam has recorded the 2nd highest growth rate in East Asia in recent years. GDP growth has been in excess of 7% over the last 5 years and the economic outlook is very bright. Container volumes have also grown at a rate of 15-20% during the same period. Vietnam's entry to the WTO is further expected to boost trade volumes. Vietnam has a stable government system and enjoys positive demographics which only serves to underline its attractiveness as a place to invest.

Ho Chi Minh City, the economic center of Vietnam, is currently served by various ports along the Saigon River, most of which are identified for progressive closure over the next 10 to 15 years under the Government's master plan. SPCT therefore plays a key part in the Government's master plan and aims to provide a world class gateway for Vietnam's trade with the world.

The support of the Vietnamese Government has been important for establishment of this project. The long-term success of the project is assured by the growing need for world class infrastructure to underpin Vietnam's continued economic growth. The commitment of Government is further re-inforced by their active participation in the continued development of in-land infrastructure and the dredging of the Soai Rap River. Therefore based on Decision 741/QD-CHHVN of Vinamarine, the Soai Rap channel was officially put into operations on 29th November, 2007. In order to commemorate this important event, SPCT will be celebrating the ceremony on 9th January, 2008.
